The Revelation of Jesus Christ

I love to think about Jesus and about God.

The last couple of days I read through the book of Revelation.  The first words of this wonderful, terrible, inspiring, confusing, encouraging, book are:

“The revelation of Jesus Christ . . .”

The immediate context reveals that this phrase refers to the revelation which comes from Jesus Christ and is given to us by way of the Apostle John.  However, reading through Revelation it quickly becomes apparent that the book is not only a revelation which comes from Jesus, but is also a revelation about Jesus.  Jesus is in the spotlight.  In Revelation, the focus is on Jesus from the opening verse to the glorious conclusion.  He is the author of the letters, the center of attention, the climax of the action, and the hero of the story. As the hero of the story, He sacrifices Himself, yet lives again, defeats evil armies, slays the dragon, and wins for Himself a glorious bride and the grateful worship of multitudes.

Of course, everything Jesus is and everything He does is in complete harmony with His Father.  In fact, in many places it is impossible to differentiate between God’s actions and those of Christ. They always work together. So whenever we focus on Jesus we are also focusing on our Heavenly Father, and it is impossible to know God as our Heavenly Father without knowing Jesus as our Savior and Lord (John 8:19; John 14:6).

So, I invite you to marvel with me at the glories of our Lord Jesus as revealed in Revelation.

Jesus is the Lion  (Revelation 5:5)

He has a sharp double-edged sword (Revelation 2:12). He rides a white horse and makes war (Revelation 19:11).  The armies of Heaven follow Him (Revelation 19:14). Evil armies, terrible beasts, and a dragon all fight against Jesus, but He triumphs over them all because He is the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords (Revelation 17:14).

Jesus is the ruler of the kings of the earth (Revelation 1:5). He rules God’s creation (Revelation 3:14). Jesus reigns for ever and ever (Revelation 11:15).

Jesus holds the keys of death and Hades (Revelation 1:18). He also holds the key of David. Whatever Jesus shuts, no one else can open, and whatever Jesus opens, no one else can shut (Revelation 3:7).

Jesus is the Lamb (Revelation 5:6)

Jesus died, but now He lives for ever and ever (Revelation 1:17).

Jesus is the one who loves us (Revelation 1:5). He has freed us from our sins by his blood (Revelation 1:5). He stands at the door and knocks, ready to come in and eat with us (Revelation 3:20). Jesus is our shepherd who leads us to streams of living water and wipes away all our tears (Revelation 7:17).

Jesus is Worshiped

Seeing both His awesome power and His amazing love leads inevitably to worship.

Jesus is worshiped by many millions of angels singing loudly together (Revelation 5:11). He is worshiped by a great multitude of people from every nation and language who shout His praises (Revelation 7:9).

In fact, every creature in Heaven and on Earth and in the sea and under the earth sing praise to His Name (Revelation 5:13).

Jesus is Awesome, and He is Coming Soon!

Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End (Revelation 22:13).

He offers the water of life as a free gift (Revelation 22:17).

Jesus is coming soon. (Revelation 22:20).

Doesn’t your heart cry out along with the Apostle John, “Amen.  Come, Lord Jesus”?!

Until that day, may His grace be with you!

Hebrews 13:16 And do not forget to do good and to share with others . . .
