White Fields

Guest blog post by Joy Corbett (my awesome daughter)

Here in northeast North Carolina, the sight of a field full of “southern snow” is an annual occurrence. When time for cotton harvest comes around, the rest of life seems to grind to a halt for farmers. A farmer’s highest priority is to harvest his white fields.
“Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and see that the fields are white for harvest.”
In the gospels Jesus speaks of another type of field that is “white for harvest” (John 4:35).The disciples were fussing over Jesus in this passage, trying to get him to eat some food. However, Jesus prioritized the Samaritans over His physical needs. Everything was put on hold for this harvest of souls.
“The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
Yet again, Jesus was found ministering to the masses (Matt. 9:35-38). Our dear Lord has compassion on the sick, the needy, and those who are “harassed and helpless.” Today, yes this very day, there are people around you and me who are sick and needy and confused. They need Jesus just as much as the people of the 1st century did. And what was Jesus’ answer? He sent out His disciples, giving them the power to make a difference in people’s lives (Matt. 10:1).
May we follow the examples set before us with hope and confidence, because our fields are white and waiting too.

Hebrews 13:16 And do not forget to do good and to share with others . . .
